Job Responsibilities in the Human Performance Engineering Dept.
- I took existing programs, created complementary ones, packaged them all
together, creating the UNIX Writer's Workbench Software. These programs were
the first ones to provide feedback about a document (beyond spelling checks),
and they were copied by people outside AT&T to create the whole new PC
market in writing analysis software. I provided technical leadership to the
group that began to work on the project.
- Over the next 5 years, we developed new programs, ported the programs to
other UNIX machines, and licensed them through Western Electric.
- In the last release, I designed and wrote a 4500-line C interactive
proofreading program that emulated the UNIX vi editor but also provided
correction menus.
- Following AT&T divesture, funding for WWB devlopment was halted in
late 1985.
