Job Responsibilities in the AT&T Library Network
As one of 7 programmers charged with producing and maintaining all the
programs involved in running a large network of libraries, I was particularly
concerned with designing user-front ends for both internal and end-user use. My
specific job included the collection, creation, and distribution of current
information to scientists and researchers.
- I wrote a forms-based front-end to the Library's proprietary database
software. The program allows naive users to create databases and sophisticated
data-entry screens for a database by simply filling in a form.
- I wrote and maintained a menu-based system used to produce weekly alerting
newsletters and another one to produce monthly tables of contents-based
alerting bulletins.
- I developed the Express system, which is a complete subscription and
administration system for the electronic distribution of current information.
It provided daily, weekly, or monthly electronic output from various sources
depending on the subscriber's interest.
